Does it strike anyone as being a bad idea though? Not the occasional one for a bit of novelty but are they trying to roll it out as a major way to get beer.

I suppose getting Carlsberg from a vending machine would be preferable to how you get beer in 90% of pubs. Still you have to get something different in a pub to at home or else why go to one?

The luddite backlash has to be soon though. When will the barstaff unions complain about the destruction of their clients livelihoods?

I'd only be bothered with it if was cheaper than going to the bar; after all they're saving on staff costs so that should be passed on.
Yeah right. Total gimmick.
Anyway, if you're looking to compile a list, the laurels in clondalkin also have the gimmicks (was there for lunch)

So you don't use self surface checkouts in supermarkets, self service petrol stations, cash tellers, buffets or shopping carts as they don't drop the cost on previous shops where someone actually helped you?

Not if there's a person sitting behind a till who needs to keep their job - in my limited experience of them, self service tills tend to have bigger queues too, and are slower - moaning about unexpected things on the scales, things not on the scales when they are, authorization needed etc - tried them a handful of times, usually late in a 24hr tesco, always frustrating.

Don't know of any others tbh.
[quote:3lni6ypn]cash tellers[/quote:3lni6ypn]
??? ATMs? of course - banks are closed when I'm not at work.
[quote:3lni6ypn]buffets[/quote:3lni6ypn]
Haven't even seen a buffet since I was in college... do they still exist?

[quote:3lni6ypn]or shopping carts[/quote:3lni6ypn]
??? trolleys? of course - never had the experience of someone else carrying my shopping for me

Back in the day shops were frequently like Argos or the ones you see in old hardware stores where someone gets all the stuff you wanted for you.

My point is that self service tends to creep into shops once the owners figure out it is cheaper and you end up not having the choice as happened with petrol stations.

In Supermarkets it does still seem to be cheaper and better to not automate all cash registers but they have many times the number of products.

I don't think the idea is to save on labour costs, does the system deliver and wash glasses, and does it have a cash till, or credit card machine attached to it? If i ran a bar with these systems in place, i think i would spend more time monitoring system and the users, than i woud on everything else.

If you could put more than 4 people around these PYOP tables, thay might leave the gimmick zone by actually attracting business, but at 4 people a pop they are pretty useless if only 4 people can use them at any one time. If a PYOP table came equiped with a glass rack, a dozen seats and privacy, it might make a lot of sense for those who want to feel special in a bar. And there are lots of those people out there
In fact i would employ that idea myself, as i would see it attracting people. But the Pour Your Own Hooker table with a q out the door might take away from it
