New Ox-Bar PET bottles on special offer 16 years 3 months ago #1

Hi Guys,
Just to let you know that we are launching the new Coopers Ox-Bar PET bottles at about 25% less that the UK RRP (special offer until 14 Feb: 9.99 for 24 by 500ml bottles). They have a special Ox-Bar barrier sadnwiched between 2 PET layers, this Oxygen Barrier keeps CO2 in and Oxygen out! All the advantages of glass bottles, but cheap and with screw caps.

They are due in Friday but wont last long, so you can prebook them on the special offer section of the site:

I recently spoke to a homebrew equipment manufacturer who informed me that:

- sunlight reacts with the hop extract in beer,
- exceptions are some light commercial beers (like Corona); these use special hops that can somehow tolerate exposure to sunlight, it seems that this is a bit of a black art and a closely guarded secret!
- so, unless you are somehow going to make a true Corona, homebrew bottles should be dark, and kept away from light.

Miller apparently uses the "black art" anti-skunking hop extract, too. (Although I'm sure the fact that they use very, very little hop extract at all helps with skunking, too..)

When a beer tastes so bad, do you really worry about skunking? Would the people that drink it even realize it was skunked? (Sorry, low blow...)

No I don't think Miller or coors or corona are skunked - if there're no hops there's no problem <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
