Memmingen has its own brewery and as I recall the Dukles bier is good and the Helles is well drinkable -at 5.20€ a Masskrug you cant really complain

You mentioned Munich - I've been there a few times. Great transport around the city with the S-bahn U-bahn system. Love the Augustiner pubs, Lowenbraukeller, Weisses Brauhaus and you have to pay a visit to the Hofbrauhaus even if it's just to say you've been! Avoid weekends if you do go to Hofbrauhaus. In June, I'm sure the various biergartens would be in operation.

I'm a simple man; give me fresh helles beer and a pork knuckle and I'm happy!

PS: not been to Bamberg but it's on my list.

This is exactly why I love Germany!

I've been to Bamberg, Munich, Nuremberg and Frankfurt myself. Wouldn't bother with Frankfurt again (though it was a flying visit) but the other city's are pretty cool. Bamberg and Nuremberg being the favourites (maybe because I spent most time there).

I'm actually planning a similar trip for the summer also. There's a trip called the romantic road that travels up through bavaria, supposed to be pretty nice.

If you stay a night in Fuessen , near Fuessen is a old abbey hotel with own brewery. I had the best beer soup there and nice beer schnaps.

Fuessen, now there's a place we were considering giving a go in the summer. It looks nice but fairly small.

Would you recommend it?

The idea being to fly to maybe Memmingen to get to Fuessen for a night or two and then gradually make our way up to Bamberg!
