Oops... Irish craft brewing's 'Hunk Dorys' moment? 14 years 2 months ago #19

[quote:1sb5u22j]So im going to apply this logic to the current subject. The women involved in campaining against this type of thing are just do gooders, who are prob not in a opsition to be exploited themselves (i.e. fat and ugly) with nothing else to worry about and are actually doing some women, who want, and are entitled to, work, out of a job.[/quote:1sb5u22j]

You are using a similar argument as was used over a hundred years ago to deny women the vote

Only ugly women who can't get a husband want to vote etc... Why is it that women we disagree with are fat and ugly but men we disagree with rarely get that thrown at them?

So I decide to return to Beoir after far too long an absence and this is the sort of thing that's being said around here now? Im disappointed. I always felt very welcome here as a lady brewer, I hope things haven't changed.
I agree with The Beer Nut photos like this don't do the image of craft beer in Ireland any good. Craft beer in Ireland is enjoyed by men and women alike and women are very involved in Irish microbreweries so I hope images and advertising such as this won't become the norm.

It's just that it makes beer look shite. It sends the message that Irish craft beer is the same sort of product as Bud and Miller, and only about 50% of the population should have any interest in drinking it.

When you spend your time trying to convince people that beer is a complex and sophisticated drink which deserves equal billing with wine and spirits, this sort of marketing is a frustrating step backwards and makes the job harder.

I don't think its the correct way to market a festival promoting craft beer either... I just think its funny that people get so offended about that type of thing.

What he said!

This advert made me cringe. It is no worse than ones I see every day for all sorts of products. But this is Irish craft beer. I care about this.

I'm not offended and I don't want to save those women from exploitation. I just feel disappointed at the paddywhackery and the appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I would be just as disappointed if they announced the festival mascot would be Tipsy the dancing Leprechaun.

I'm sure it appeals to some people, but I don't think it does the image of craft beer any good.

I think it's a bit of a straw man to say people get offended and it dodges the real reason people object to the dolly bird school of marketing -- that it's just poor marketing.
