The only home-brews my wife would have more than a sip off were Coopers Mexican Cervesa & Coopers Pilsener kits. She's not a huge beer fan, but will sip on the odd bottle of lager during the summer...... Now to figure out a home-brew clone for vodka & diet coke & I'll be laughing!!

we moved house yesterday, included in the move were 4 cans of Heineken which a friend left behind after a recent party, 30 bottles of an Irish Red Ale I brewed myself and 60 bottles of a coffee and vanilla porter that I bottled at the weekend. For some reason I decided to try a can of Heineken, christ it was awful. First sip was bad, left it a few mins and it didn't get any better so down the sink with it.

Got rid of the bad bad taste and the guilt with a bottle of my red ale

A Belgian Wit beer brewed with a neutral American Ale yeast strain always goes over well. (A Blue Moon clone, essentially.) -Load up the fresh orange peel.

The Green US Homebrewers forum has a Strong Belgian Golden ale recipe called "Liquid Stoopid" that I think was their most popular beer recipe among women; it's in the general vein of a Belgian tripel.

Having said that, my wife is a hophead and doesn't like most wheat beers, nor most sweeter beers.

For what its worth, my wife generally doesn't like beer too much but what she does like is Belgian sour beers - particularly Liefmanns Kriek/Rodenbach Grand Cru/Duchess du Bourgogne or proper lambics like 3 Fontenein, in part because they are more wine-like than normal beers.

Which kind of surprised me, but I think I'd read one of the bloggers (maybe Pete Brown?) saying that once they get past the whole image thing a lot of women actually prefer more flavourful beers.

My wife hates beers but both my sisters will try something new from time to time, one was drinking 5 am saint last night at the black sheep and the other would be a big fan of the friar weiss. Stouts are always a good thing to the 5 am saint drinker but barely register as being an option to my other sister.

Neither of them feel any pressure to even ask to try whatever new beer I have in my hand at the time! So I reckon the way forward is just to try everything!
