From experience does anyone have a list of Ales and Beers, home brewed or commercial that seem to appeal more to women. I have a feeling that I am one of the lesser spotted females using this site, I might be wrong. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Well my lady, Una, likes just about everything I brew.

She favours the darker ( and usually sweeter ) malty beers like Belgium Dubbles, Dark WeizenBoks, Dark Bok beers, Rich smooth dark stouts.

What she doesn't like is to be told how strong they are!!

"Oh don't tell me the ABV, it will make me drunk!!"

It is often generalised that our lady drinkers prefer sweeter less bitter flavours but I am sure that is an over simplification

This is certainly true of the teenagers who don't like bitter flavours and so start off on Ciders and Alcopops.
And maybe progress( <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: --> ) onto lagers.

Maybe someone could do a light, malty, brownish ( colour of Coke !! ) beer that would start our younger genertion down the decent path of beer apreciation and sensible drinking.

My bestfriend will happily go to craft beer pubs with me and tends to go for weiss beers and Belgian wits whilst she doesn't like hoppier beers like Hop Head or Sierra Nevada's.

I've found that a lot of girls like stouts and porters as well (probably cause of the chocolate tastes. <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt="" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> )

My Girlfriend loves Belgian beers, not so much bitters. Stout it really depends, not a fan of guinness except when it is an exceptional pint of the stuff. Coffee and chocolate stouts/porters are also nice to sip along at a slow pace

I find that some of my other female friends really like Brooklyn Lager.

I agree with the Stouts, I definitely like most of them but am limited to the amount that I can consume, which probably isn't a bad thing really. Tried Brooklyn Lager, it's grand but was expecting more from it (especially after reading the book). Then I tried Wells Banana Bread Beer the other day and liked it a lot, but one is enough. I suppose I'll just have to drink my way through the lot and figure it out after that <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> .

What Will said about the strong dark beer, and Belgians in particular, rings true to me as well. People who like wine are used to strong and full-flavoured drink. The likes of Chimay Bleu and Duvel are almost always the most popular with women at tastings I've done.
