then clean it before you use it.
Sanitize with whatever you like as an added precaution.
Remember , people brewed for about 5 thousand years before anyone figured out about sanization .

As long as Stuff is Clean the risk of infection is low, but any sanitization method will give you a little voodoo doll reassurance.
Any infection I've got has been from being a little lazy on cleaning and assuming sanitising would sort it out .
There are lots of great sanitizing products , Paracetic acid , Sodium percarbonate , VWP , Starsan, Iodophor , Vinegar and bleach . All great products that will give you extra reassurance . But clean everything thoroughly , before and after use , that is much more important .
Do you sanitise your pots and pans at home after you've washed them ?
Do you sanitise your glassware after washing and before use ?

No, but I don't leave stuff in them for weeks before eating or drinking them either, so they don't need it.

My pots and glassware also don't stand around with stuff fermenting in them with weeks to multiply their colonies of bacteria............not since I got married anyway <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Ahhh yes
But beer is filled with Hops ( sanitiser ) and alcohol ( sanitiser ) and Yeast ( naturally high competitive micro-organism ) and CO2 ( suffocating a lot of micro-organisms )
So your beer is only vunerable to infection between when you cool it and when the yeast creates enough alcohol to kill other micro-organisms .
Which if you clean everything well before and after use , shouldn't be a problem .
But sanitise for added security whatever way you like. I do .
But don't skimp on the cleaning . that's the most important bit .

My cleaning rituals all involve warm soapy water and milton. I thought a lot of home brewers used milton but it doesn't seem to have been mentioned. Does anyone else use it or have used it in the past?

I Did do ( I have four kids , lots of milton for babybottles ), but got a few mini kegs with a phenolic taste in them , so stopped using it .
