Not sure if this was linked on the mapping lost breweries article, it's one of the old OS maps:

A lot of the breweries are marked on it

At the time of writing these OS maps weren't available publicly online. As it happens, I worked on parts of that project too <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> But these are the very same maps I used to fine tune locations (specifically, the Historic 6" - I got them via the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government), in combination with the text sources to narrow down the search. OSi did digitise brewery locations from the 1st Edition maps, but certainly not all, and not all breweries were marked on the maps either.

Really beautiful maps (well, the 6" are my favourites), and well worth a look. If only OSi would open them up a little more, and make them available as a service for mashing up.

Actually, that's really handy now it's open access.

Here's St. Bridgid's Brewery in Dungarvan on the 6" (in the 1830s: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,625562,593275,7,7">maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,625562,593275,7,7

Then on the 25" (can't recall what years that was done): <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,625562,593275,7,9">maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,625562,593275,7,9

^ both of those links are the same Barry.

Seems to be quite snappy. The OSI's vector based online (agent) mapping was (is?) like treacle.

Courtyard style brewery as used by someone famous. Presumably no longer a brewery by the time the maps were done.

Oops, fixed.

Yeah, the rasters are quite snappy, and these in particular as they are tiled and cached, both at the server and client side. The Agent viewer was dynamic, as the database is/was constantly changing, hence it had/has to generate the images on the fly for the large scale vector data at least. Pretty heavy with the amount of data they wanted to display. I assume they still use the same viewer. Been a few years since I worked on this, but the technology moved on a lot from when they started on it.
