Bill, I would appreciate any tips, or a pointer to your site, on cultivating hop rhizomes. I've read a basic description of the procedure, i.e. burying the base of the vine.

That is one method, although I have never tried it. Using cuttings of rhizomes from the root crown is probably the more common method; the difference between a rhizome and a plain root is that the rhizome will some smaller roots plus one or more "buds" on it, from which the bines will sprout.
My site is [url:2j19h9gb]http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Grow-Hops[/url:2j19h9gb], and it is exclusively about growing beer ingredients; it originally included only hops, but has since been expanded to include growing grains and herbs for brewing -- although the primary focus is still on hops. I hope you will give us a visit.
[quote:shi8jxlb]That is an excellent book but my problem with is that he tends to use statistics from homebrew competitions as a guide to style. I'd strongly question this since it is more likely to be a guide to what homebrewers do in an attempt to win competitions.[/quote:shi8jxlb]That's true Les although I still think it's an excellent reference for the styles and a good read to boot.
