Corny or King Keg?? 15 years 4 months ago #25

Hi Dan

That price does look good. However, Those kegs dont seem to have a pressure release valve on the lid which means having to purge through gas in. they are also pin-lock (coca cola) which in my opinion are slightly inferior to ball lock (pepsi cola), I have both.

Norm's kegs(ball lock) come with quick disconnects and 1 metre of beer and gas line.
He recently quoted me £110 for 2 kegs with fittings and postage.

On a side note, I believe 'My beer and wine' are due to Take shipment of 23l Corney type kegs over the next month or so. Might be worth giving them a call

I wouldn't dismiss the king kegs that quickly. I found them perfect for stouts and ales that you want to serve at room temperature. They're not as shiny as corny's but they work fine if you are willing to be patient at pour time and not crack open the tap too much (its like a very crude flow control device <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> ). If you want to see both in action side by side, feel free to give me a shout and drop over.

Hi
I have a beersphere and what's called a basic 5 gal barrel. Both are filled with sodastream bottles. I agree with the comment about it never being right. The flavour of the over-gassed beer is also bland. I used to use an hambleton bard S30 gas bottle which gave more control. But I can't get it refilled for a good price. Does anybody know where I can get it?

A third option is the Polypin...

I purchased a 10litre from Bestbrew.ie (€10, bargain!) the other day and have an extract Stout carbonating in it at the mo.. [i:1rm2zqot]I'll try post pics of it later[/i:1rm2zqot] Plan to use it for Stouts and Ales, low carbonated drinks (not Weissbiers).

It's swelled to the max at the mo, bit worried about it exploding so I have it inside a 25 litre fermenting bucket. I may lose the poly but I aint sacrificing the stout!

Hope to pull my first pint this weekend... If it works I'm gonna get about five of them and keep a range of beers on the go.. They seem a like a great option for arriving at a party and having a ready-to-go cask ale bar to drink from!

Here's[/url:3vojfknq]a great tread on polypins. Seem as if they vent some of the C02

Thanks for the link Spud,

I did a big trawl through Jim's (and here) before going down the polypin route. At the moment it's looking good but I am worried about returning home this week from work to find a sticky black stout mess and the remains of a polypin...
