Corny or King Keg?? 15 years 5 months ago #1

I know the Corny keg seems to be the big one for home brewers, but what is the king keg really like is it any good for draught beers??

I find it very good once modded with the S30 valve for real ales. You'll get about half the keg dispensed with the conditioning pressure and then have to hit it with a spritz of gas to get it going again.
If you like cask then go with KK, if you like kegged then go with Cornie, although there are some such as Saruman who prime their cornies naturally, not sure what resemblance to a cask ale he gets with that though, I'm sure someone else who has cornies will chime in.
KK takes a bit of getting used to and some cleaning up with sandpaper to ensure good seals all around, but once you have it cracked they're great.

Disagree, my experience with KK was crap compared to Corny. The tap on it is pure shite, you can't control the Co2 pressure - it's too much when you top up with Co2, then eventually becomes just right for about 2 pours and then too little after you pour another pint, repeat ad nauseum.
I gave mine away before I even had cornies to replace it.
Seriously.
Don't.

Don't.

If you want cask, get a polypin/vinotainer.

You do have to wait a little while for the head to settle when dispensing but it's a minor inconvenience to be honest.
I'd not be quite so negative as Ken, but then it's horses for courses.

Hi Eoin are you using s30 valve with a soda stream gas canister ? my 8g bulb valve is kaput and im thinking of going s30 and sodastream ....i presume a canister lasts ages...

by the way im very happy with the basic barrel gives real ale carbination using 3 8g bulbs tops for the whole brew....but cornies are shiny

It's S30 with a Hambleton Bard S30 cylinder, no soda stream involved.
