Thanks everyone. I'm even more excited about my trip now. I'll try and visit as many of those places as I can. I'm most excited about visiting the Cantilon brewery. Unfortunately I'm flying Ryanair so I doubt I'll be able to bring more than a bottle or two home (big pity really). Still I'll soldier on. Hopefuly I'll find enough to write about for the articles section of this site. Thanks again.

brussels IS beer.
you'll have a ball.
if you can't bring home the beer you will at least be able to bring home some of the glasses so you can enjoy the beers at home the way the brewer intended. the "beer temple" off the grand place has a great selection, but ain't that cheap. there's a chain of supermarkets called "colyrut" (bit like lydl only cheaper) and they sell most of the glasses. prepared to be sickened though, cos they sell the best of belgian beers by the case at unbelievbly cheap prices. there's about half a dozen stores in brussels as far as i know(lived there for a while). might be handier to get a cab. nearest one to the grand place is about a five-ten min drive. is accessable by metro but hard to explain

It does not have the beer selection of the places mentioned before, but it is a place my better half and I go to every time we are in Brussels.

The food is absolutely wonderful and they are the past masters at cooking with beer.

The first time we ate there, we both went for the beer menu. This is a three course meal, with a choice of starter, main course and desert, where every dish has a beer based sauce, or was cooked in beer and comes with a beer selected to compliment that particular dish.

The last time I was there for lunch, I got the Flemish beef stew, which is beef cooked in dark beer. The beef was so tender it was falling apart when the spoon touched it. This and a glass of Rodenbach. Mmmm.

Don't go if you are in a rush. It's not that the service is slow, it's just that the combination of generous portions of delicious food and good beer tend to make you sit back and relax.[/quote:34jrth72]

I've decided that I'm going to ask my girlfriend a very important question when we're there. I want a nicely romantic place to do it. Would that restaurant fit the bill or would it be a bit too noisy? If not, can someone recommend a place where I can make this.......er...... proposal.

I was saving that for our actual wedding ceremony.
