For anyone heading over to Munich, I'd really recommend buying a book called "The Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich" by Larry Hawthorne, you can buy it on Amazon. We had it for our trip there in August and it really made the trip, it even comes with a map of the public transport, drinking etiquette(i.e the stammtisch etc). The one thing I will say against the book is that you're better off ignoring the vouchers for free beer at the back of the book, the pubs were waaaay out of town(we made it to one, not even a free mass could make up for the amount of time wasted trying to get there!), so stick to the ones closer to the city centre. If it's still warm, the See Garten in the Englischer Gartens is really great, on the lake, really mellow, a great way to spend an afternoon.I think it gets overlooked by the beer garten at the Chinesischer Garten, but it seemed to have less tourists there and was definitely the nicer of the two. We found the Hoffbrauhaus wasn't too busy at 10 in the morning, but couldn't imagine trying to approach it anytime later than that. When you get in take a walk around before you sit down, it's far bigger than it looks. Augustinerkeller was really great, the locals seem to go downstairs and leave the tourists upstairs. The Franziskaner Beer Garten was lovely, although a bit of a hike out, I'd really recommend the place.
As there's a whole group of you, you can get a day pass that covers all public transport for 12.30 for 5 adults. Have a fab trip and try the dunkles!Prost!
