if Irish beers continue to be sold for €6 or thereabouts, they will always remain a novelty to the general public[/quote:16uxezv0]

You expect a small brewery who bottle by hand to slake the thirst of the Irish population? I hope the good folk of Dungarvin do not enjoy sleeping.[/quote:16uxezv0]

are you suggesting its the breweries that are to solely to blame for the very expensive bar prices?

No, I think he's suggesting that a small brewery will not be able to produce enough beer to satisfy the thirst of the "general public", if they get a big enough share of their target market they will be doing well. Small enterprises don't have the economy of scale of large producers so their products will more than likely be more expensive. The real question is this: Given their relative production costs why is a mass produced beer in the bottle not [u:w1khid5t]substantially[/u:w1khid5t] cheaper than a craft beer, and what does that say about the relative value for money?

my previous point was that the average joe isn't going to pay the guts of €6 for a beer therefore Irish craft beer will remain a novelty for most. I thought this website was for promoting craft beer in the hope it will be more widespread?

I believe the tax rates for micro breweries are favourable, this allows them to compeate with the bigger boys.

I know the point you're making but the advertisement budgets for Macros would be huge money pits.

In fairness the fact that we can have this argument means that this website has definitely succeeded in that aim...
