seriously- I can barely type from laughter. I just have a vision of these little scuzzy monks with burbury habits. when you look at the proud brewing traditions of rochfort and westvleteren, how depressing must it be to be a monk of buckfast abbey?[/quote:2ek4k3kd]

That's a bit harsh, I think.
Brother Adam (1898-1994) lived at the Buckfast Abbey and studied and bred honeybees for over 75 years (and is responsible for breeding the Buckfast bee), he also "home brewed" and experimented with making meads for 54 years.
There's plenty of "proud brewing history" there...
(I admit that what I know of the subject is from "Microbrewed Adventures" by Charlie Papazian.)

Have you see the the ingredients, it read more like a cough syrup than a drink
I have to admit to drinking lots of buckie in my youth. The taste never leaves you, I can still taste it but haven't had any since my stag night ten years ago.

And I have to admit to not drinking it ever, so maybe my opinion will dramatically change after I try it! lol!
At the Leinster game in Croke Park last May my friend offered me a swig from his Coke bottle. I expected it to be whiskey and Coke or something like it, but was instead met with the taste of Buckfast and spat it out straight away. Vile stuff.
