Got this document today:

Excise on Beer

Exceeding 0.5% vol but not exceeding 1.2% vol: €0.00

Home Produced Beer exceeding 1.2% vol but not exceeding 2.8% vol, on which the tax is paid by the producer: €7.85 per hectolitre per cent of alcohol in the beer

All Other Beer exceeding 1.2% vol but not exceeding 2.8% vol: €7.85 per hectolitre per cent of alcohol in the beer

Home Produced Beer exceeding 2.8% vol on which the tax is paid by the producer: €15.71 per hectolitre per cent of alcohol in the beer

Looks like excise is payable on home brew!

I found that same article a while back on the revenue website somewhere. I remember talking about it, or well asking if I'm in trouble with the taxman, at the last meeting or maybe the one before that again. I'll see if I can dig out the pdf and stick up a link to it

"Home" seems to refer to beer brewed in Ireland. The spirits refer to "Home" and "Imported"


Edit: On closer inspection there seems to be three categories of beer: 1. Home produced, 2. Other home and 3. Other imported
