I was in Hodges Figgis last night and found a copy of "The Handbook of Brewing" by William Hardwick. It looked good, but get this - it costs €211! Reduced from €219!! Even the manager was surprised when I queried it. Last time I spent €200 on a book, it came with at least 10 others <!-- s:-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:-) -->

Anyone heard of it, or know what's with the price?

400 us dollars on amazon....so the price aint bad..Cant see how a book can be so expensive unless it comes with a microbrewery or a smaple of every beer mentioned....

I paid 180 for 'Handbook of Brewing'by Priest and Stewart for my brewing course. All of the brewing science books are very expensive. They're science texts essentially. You could probably save a fair few quid buying it online.

Wow, and I thought that computer science books were expensive. I'll stand-down my rip-off-Ireland indignation now, and get over it.

I've used it even more than the pricey one I've bought. It has a lot of chemistry and biochemistry in it but gives introductory stuff if you haven't studied science before. I studied biochemistry in college and found this book very useful.

An even better one is George Fix's 'Principles of brewing Science' very small book and not very intimidating but has tons of useful info in it.

A lot of it can be applied to home brewing and it has definitely helped me.
