Anyone been to Bamberg? 16 years 11 months ago #1

Recently booked flights to Frankfurt, with the plan to get a train to Bamberg an spend a few nights in the whole Upper Franconia area. Managed to convince the GF to go too!! ...Although it wasnt to hard to convince her, as it does look like a lovely place!!
I'm fairly fimilar with a few of the Francionian beers, order an odd drop from Bierpaket.de every now and again.
Will definately be doing the rounds on the local Bamberg Breweries? Esp Schlenkerla and a few other favourites!! As well as other general sight seeing.

Has anyone been there before?
Any tips on Hotels/Breweries/Anything?

BTW ryanair seem to have good deals goin on flights to Frankfurt at the mo. Around 26 euro return flights if you pick the right days!!!

I regret I can't give you first hand advice, but do take a look at this site, braugasthoefe.de[/url:1uvfclhb] which is a guide to small hotels or guest houses associated with breweries. I have the 2008 book, and most seem to be in the Frankenland.

To quote them:

[quote:1uvfclhb]Our members have three things in common. They are all small to medium size family concerns. They all run their own brewery, and, closely connected to this, the Braugasthof, or brewery inn.

Our association exists to revive and preserve this historical unity of brewer and innkeeper.

All the inns on this web-site form an integral part of the village, town or landscape in which they are situated. Some are relatively simple, others more sophisticated. A glance through these pages will give you an idea of the variety we represent - a truly refreshing alternative to the increasing uniformity and standardisation of our time. [/quote:1uvfclhb]

Sounds nice, doesn't it?

Thats an excellent site, just the kinda thing i'm looking for. Cheers

I like the way it focuses on the smaller folk rather than the big hotels.
The smaller places would be much more fun!!! Cheers
