[quote:2fpslo7m]Sounds perfect, why isn't the country full of them?[/quote:2fpslo7m]

The Irish consumer[/url:2fpslo7m] is the most brand loyal in Europe and this very much extends to drink.

Example: My brothers friend was recently in Belgium and paid 10 euro for a bottle of Bulmers as he wouldn't try or even contemplate buying Belgian beer.

People aren't used to seeing a range of beers and when they do they stick with what they know. Most people I know are convinced my beer will kill them. Even the ones who like beer have to be convinced to try home brew.

It's depressing is what it is...

What else is macroed out of existence? Clothes and beer I know something about so I have noticed those but what other craft industries am I consuming the "bud light" version of without realising? Probably films but 100m blockbusters really do reach the parts mico films cannot.

Now ten guys with combine harvesters and two guys with giant brewing machines can brew all the beer consumed in the country (thanks Adam Smith not John Smith for the division of labour). When this sort of efficiency improvement was predicted in the 50's it was all about working only 5 years in your life and spending the rest of it painting and such. Why if we can fulfill the basic human needs with so few people are all the rest of us still running on the hamster weheel?

Bread? If it's not a sliced pan it's probably Cuisine de France.
Cheese? Although there are some good cheese shops around.
Furniture? How many of us have filled out houses with Argos flat packs?
I'm sure there's lots more.

Fair point. I do think hardware intensive industries (computers, cars etc) are bound to be macroed.
In Agatha Christie’s autobiography, she mentioned how she never thought she would ever be wealthy enough to own a car - nor so poor that she wouldn’t have servants.

Im probably dragging this off topic by wondering why is everything macroed watered down fizzy crap rather then just beer. Ideal pub rant this conversation.

The proliferation of PC manufacturers in the early 90's was, in a way, an illusion. There were never many CPU manufacturers or CMOS makers, etc. out there, so the manufacturers were really just assembling their computers from the same pool of available parts. Mix and match, put your logo on it and start selling. I remember when I was working for IBM, some of the low end IBM PC's were actually assembled by ACER. Ironically, I think the ACER made ones actually used a higher proportion of IBM made parts than the ones made in IBM factories.
