Beer Birthday Present - help needed!! 17 years 5 months ago #1

Hi everyone,

I want to get a beer related gift for my husband for his 30th birthday. He is mad into Belgian beer and well beer in general.

Does anyone know if there are beer tasting courses in Dublin or Ireland even and if there are brewing courses?

Also, what about beer brewing kits? Has anyone used them and where did you get them?

Lastly, can anyone recommend a good site for getting Belgian beer?

Lots of questions, sorry!!

Thanks!!!

a good off licence like Sweeneys (Glasnevin) or Redmonds (Ranelagh) stock lots of different types of Belgian beer. Sweeneys have a tasting night every month or so too

I got my homebrew starter kit from <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="www.thehomebrewcompany.ie">www.thehomebrewcompany.ie
I found it great and they stock Brewferm Belgian kits too. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Michael Jackson's books make a good present (though I'll leave WestAsleep to verify if it really is!)

This is a link to some american brewing kit stores <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="www.northernbrewer.com">www.northernbrewer.com & www.morebeer.com..">www.morebeer.com... What you can get from these is recipes and ingredients; I wouldn't advise buying kits from them as the shipping is too high, but you can order the ingredients from www.thehomebrewcompany.ie">www.thehomebrewcompany.ie. If they do not have the ingredients you can order from www.brouwland.com">www.brouwland.com which is a beligian store. The shipping costs are quite substantial so beware.

The best Beligian recipe that I have brewed and/or tasted in my 9 years of hombrewing is a cloned recipe from a company in the states New Belgium Brewing Company; name of the beer is Fat Tire. The recipe on <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="www.northernbrewer.com">www.northernbrewer.com in the beligian kits has a recipe called Phat Tire which is the clone. You will not get the Victory malt for this recipe in Europe, but if you have a strong desire to try this ale I can get my hands on some of this malt.
