Suggestions for brew name? 17 years 6 months ago #1

On Sunday, I finally did my my first brew since relocating from Scotland to Essex (almost ending up in Dublin, but that story has already been told here ). The new brewery is not yet complete but I decided I had enough room, facilities and ingredients to do a first trial brew. All went as well as expected and I'd suggest this as an exercise for anyone planning to convert a garage, shed or outhouse to a home brewery since it helped me to decide how I want to arrange things as I proceed to sort the brewery out.

The beer I brewed was a relatively simple ~95% pale malt, ~5% crystal malt, OG~1035 recipe with a single variety of hops. The aim was essentially to check everything and get an idea of the water supply with a relatively simple "calibration" brew. However, one novelty was the use of Argentine Cascade hops that I obtained in Buenos Aires in August (my wife is Argentine). For information, these hops cost me just under 200 pesos for 2kg, which works out at about £1.50 for 100g! Of course, the costs of getting to BA etc. completely wiped out any savings I made on the hops.

The brew is now fermenting happily, but I was wondering what to call the beer. Any suggestions?

Pampas Pale in honour of the hops?

Maybe Gaucho's Gulp!

How about "35 Degrees South"?
That line of latitude runs just south of Buenos Aires and it's the OG of your beer.

Depends on what you're looking for in a name & if you're looing for an Argintenian connection
Classy - Iguazu Cascades
Sporty - Boca Bock
Cheeky - Gringo's Gargle (seeing as its pale and all)
Or are you looking for something to denote that you've moved?
PEA (Pale Essex Ale)
The High Road
or something to indicate that you've just done your first brew in Essex?

I like Séan's 35°South suggestion. There's a branch of the company I work for called 52°North because of Münster's latitude. 52°N for sort

Plain Sailing Ale? (with a little boat motif if you were to do labels).

Plain Sailing in terms of your new brewing set-up (and a plain recipe too), but also as a reference to Buenos Aires, which was named after the Virgin Mary in her capacity as the protector of seafarers.
