The alcohol free Schneider really gives you an idea what alcohol contributes to flavour and overall sensory perception of a beer. I had a bottle a few weeks ago and was astounded how bland it was.

Evaporating off the alcohol is one, if unsubtle means of getting rid of the ethanol, but most brewers are using yeast manipulation techniques now to try and retain as much character as possible and not stew the beer by heating.

Baltika 0 really does taste like real lager.

I think malt drink are a good alternative to beer when driving. They taste good and though not like beer seem they do seem to be ticking the same taste boxes. You most commonly find them in African shops. Guinness do one but do not sell it here.

I've seen the Guinness one in African produce shops in Swords. I've been tempted to try some for quite a while.

You get Malzbier all over the place here, Vitamalz[/url:iz26hxql] probably being one of the most popular brands, but any I've tried have been pretty sweet affairs, although I've been told Pinkus Mueller make a nice one that isn't so sweet. The first time I tried one (about seven years ago or more I guess) I didn't realise it was non-alcoholic till my wife said it was children's beer <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> Anyway, I haven't rushed back to trying more to be honest.

Give it a go sure. I would also recommend making some fried plantain crisps.
