I think you mean just businesses being businesses. Simple economics really.

There was a reason we are all so shocked at the price. It was incredibly low for those beers.[/quote:73gdndz3]

It was reasonable, that was indeed a bit shocking. And to be expected when you take away the middle men and the off license mark up.

I did.

It's still somewhat annoying. JD weatherspoons sell their beers. I could go in and drink 72 of their core range and only be paying an extra €50

Wetherspoons has a different business model to most pubs. They usually buy beer for less than what it would normally be sold for, on the assumption that turnover will be higher and make up for it.

I don't know if this is the case for the Irish breweries that sell to them but it's the reason there aren't that many Irish breweries in JDW. Most probably refused.

Exactly, they might be making less profit on each beer but they are making more on food and soft drinks and from having the place busy all day. Wetherspoons in Derry is busy in the morning with breakfast, does a healthy lunchtime trade and is then busy throughout the evening with people eating as well as drinking. Come night-time it's full of people who are heading out to a pub/club and want to have a few cheap ones first. Publicans down south complain about people filling up on drink at home before heading out but it's cheaper for me to just go to spoons instead of getting a carryout.

It's no wonder they're so successful really.

That's complete speculation of course!
