Thought that might bring you out of the woodwork.

Can't beat a bit of criminal slander...

Ah, I just got back from a week in the UK where I was ensconced in a hotel for three days of meetings, conferences and parties. The best the hotel had to offer was John Smith's Smooth... (and Boddingtons!).

My deepest condolences. It's not a bad beer if you're into big, hearty mouthfuls of nitrogen.

Ahh, that classic advertising slogan: "If you like breathing air, you'll love John Smith's."

It was certainly the best of a bad lot. I was in the same hotel last year, and I asked the same question when I first went ot the bar: "Do you have any bottled ales?", to which the reply was a blank look, till I tried rephrasing the question two other ways finally getting the response: "we have Becks, Corona, Budweiser"... you get the idea

Although I have to admit that by 4am I had moved to vodkas and red bull and Jack Daniels (not mixed together I hasten to add!) while telliong myself that I'm getting too old for this shit...

I get an awful empty feeling when I'm stuck in a bar with limited offerings. I read of an American beer buff who just wouldn't drink any beer if it wasn't to his taste. Something to be said for avoiding potent chemicals like ethanol and excess calories if it's not in a form you would enjoy imbibing.
