The Institute of Brewing and Distilling has a beer sommelier scheme for people who want to improve their knowledge of beer and become experts on beer and food matching.

I thought I'd post here for people on this forum who might be interested that according to the latest issue of Brewer and Distiller, two Irishmen working for Beer distributor Fourcorners have passed the exam and become Ireland's first beer sommeliers.

Note that the IBD require you to have attended two of their other courses before you can apply for this!!

I would like to see more qualifications amongst our beertenders!

Ireland only has 2 beer sommeliers?? Has to be more than that!!

Only 2 recognised by that education provider! There may be others from a different education program. There aren't any more that I'm aware of!

I'm not saying the skills don;t exist here but there is probably very little demand from employers for formal qualification of beer sommeliers?

Is it just employers that you might want that qualification for? I posted it up here because I thought there might be a few on this site who might want to organise a beer and food matching evening for some reason and might need to know who the experts are.

I did the cicerone course when I was living in Canada, there were a few Irish lads on the course too. I needed it for my job. The bar i worked in only hired people who were certified. Thats why i said it.
