TOPIC:

So, I'm going to buy my brother a few fancy beers for his birthday. He's a keen beer drinker but doesn't share my nerdy devotion (yet). He seems mainly to stick to English ales so I want to give him something new. He lives in Drumcondra and seems to buy most of his beers in Sweeney's in Glasnevin. I was thinking of getting him the three Rocheforts 6,8,10 but am also considering a gift pack of Westmalle or something like that - the glasses are handy. The trouble is I'm working in town today and meeting him in Glasnevin. I don't really fancy getting a Luas to Ranelagh. Would it be worth my while going out to Stoneybatter? Is there anywhere else that might stock interesting beers that Sweeney's don't carry? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers

Oh, I was toying with the idea of getting him a few of those Unibroue bottles from Supervalu but I think they're bottles meant for sharing and his wife isn't really into beer.

Getting good beer in the city centre is a pain. I think heading to DrinkStore would be worth your while -- they had a particularly good line in Scottish beer last time I was in, and deliveries are on Thursday mornings. I couldn't guarantee they'd have anything not in Sweeney's, though.

Or, of course, you could peruse the Bull & Castle's off licence menu over a pint of Hooker.
(O'Hara's is back, btw. Purgatory is still on but Rebel Red has lost out in the re-shuffle.)

I know, it just seems a bit too easy nipping across to Supervalu. I'll see how I'm doing timewise. I might head out to Ranelagh yet. If not, Stoneybatter.

Is there anywhere in Dublin, other than Ranelagh that is likely to carry the Rochefort beers? Failing that, the two Westmalles would be nice. I know B&C do the Tripel but I don't think they do the Dubbel.
