Id assume the expertise is there- is it as simple as hops in a sterilised muslin bag into the keg? No need to weigh it down? Easy to get back out?

Pretty much. You could tie the bag to the dip tube.

That's all there is to it. I don't weigh down but I have heard some people do. Not sure of the benefits and not having stainless steel ball-bearings handy, I elect not to bother.

I cable-tie a muslin bag to the dip-tube. Not the best practice putting plastic in the beer but I think the chances of infection are negligible.

Would you recommend using whole hops for this or can you use pellets too.

If I were to use pellets I'd probably put them in something slightly less porous like a nylon stocking.There's nothing more frustrating than a keg full of hop matter! <!-- s:x --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mad.gif" alt=":x" title="Mad" /><!-- s:x -->
