Hi Guys,
I know im only new to this and am completely out of my depth but i think there is a big enough market for strong american style ipa's in Ireland. There are more and more of them coming into the country for a reason...o'haras ipa is one of our best selling craft beers anyway! seasonals/ limited editions always shift fast and i really hope the franciscan wells next one (an IPA out next month) blows me away but it will never be a game changer in that price bracket and format in my opinion.
as for the cask fest i too thought it was quite conservative and that any of the hoppy pale ales i liked just had cascade thrown at them and as i said im new to this but i got a bag of citra (15% alpha!!)the other day and the smell alone blew me away! i would love to try some professional 'homebrew' where the brewers experiment more and use new exciting ingredients not just what they have lying around in the brewery.

White Gypsy have a few strong hoppy ales e.g. Mustang American Ale (circa 6.5%). Remember having them at the Craft Beer Festival although I've not seen them elsewhere.

Agreed; I'd definitely drink Mustang if I could get it.

Interesting thread, this, with some detailed analysis of emerging trends in the Irish brewing industry.
It begs the question why, if hoppy beers would be a sure-fire commercial success, some of the contributors haven't started their own breweries to quench the thirst of the clammering hordes of Irish hopheads?

They might not intentionally brew them, Mr H, but I've been served up a few... <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

Tim (bighair) and Gráinne (grainne) did just that and seem to consistently hitting the nail on the head.
