First, style is not that important. Does it taste good? That is what matters. If you make a golden beer in Ireland or inspired by Ireland that is all that is really needed. As for an Irish Pale Ale the same applies, unless you use an ingredient or brewing technique to make it truely "Irish" all pale ales a really very similar. I like to use more wheat than typical, but less than a "weizen." I like to mix ingredients, such as American or New Zealand hops. Have fun and don't miss the forest for the trees.

Well we showed we can't tell one type of tree from another and thus that the forest was not a native one

Where's Metalman Pale Ale in your list of contenders?

Did you skip it because it's obviously an American Pale Ale?

If so, isn't that just adding more worms to a fairly crowded tin?

The test took place on September 30th 2010.

Metalman did not exist for another 5 months

Apologies, I hadn't noticed this was a zombie thread, back from the dead after a year and a half.

In fairness it might be now worth resurrecting. You think Metalman is similar to American beers. I'm not sure.
We did the test with
Ór, Buckley's, Titanic Quarter, O'Hara's Irish Pale Ale and Galway Hooker. Are any of the new Irish beers in the two years since 'Irish' enough to make the test worth running again?

What is new? Dungarvan Helvic Gold, 8 degrees howling gale ale, Metalman, any others?

Could anyone pick out 5 Irish ales they think hardened beoir members could separate from Sierra Nevada and a classic English Ale?
