So are Irish Golden ales their own style?

For:There are too many ales (12)[/url:latc619r] in the Michael Jackson awards so they need to break up the competition

Against: There are too many styles of beer "Great American Beer Festival... the 79 categories[/url:latc619r]"

For:I can 100% guarantee I could taste the difference between an IGA and a normal ale

Against: You couldn't and you have not tested it or named what the IGA's are.

For: Having a unique craft style would be good publicity
Against: Thats the worst argument ever

Shall I keep fighting with myself or am I missing any other arguments?

I think Irish Pale Ale can be its own style with some specific adjustments. I just brewed my own version of an Irish golden ale. Mine is 2/3 barley malt and 1/3 wheat malt. You keep the lighter color and it has a distinct character from an English or American versions. I then used Kent Goldings for bittering and American Cascade hops for aroma, 30 IBUs. I used an English yeast and brewed it to a strength of 5%. It is rich and bready with light citrus hoppiness. Add a bit of caramel malt and you have an Irish Pale Ale and not a Irish Gold.

What beers are Irish Golden Ales by your definition?

We tried a taste test[/url:1cmz262a] and O'Hara's Irish Pale Ale tasted like an American Ale. Which ruined my IGA theory <!-- s:oops: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt=":oops:" title="Embarassed" /><!-- s:oops: -->
