I'd love to try some of the home-brews you guys make here. Doubt I'll ever get the chance unless there's smoe kinda festival on or something like that James May programme in the Bull&Castle.

What's the law on home-brewing anyway? Is it kinda "personal is ok" look the other way thing ?

no it's not even a 'look the other way' thing, brewing only becomes a legal issue once you start selling your produce, the same way it would be if you started selling the bread you bake. You'd be required to pass certain health requirements, with brewing you are also required to have a brewing license, which I presume involves an inspection of your premises and a payment of about 200e, you also are liable for duty on all the beer you brew, as soon as it becomes consumable. None of this is relevant to homebrewers because we don't sell beer to others. I think it used to be a legal grey area at least in britain, until the late 60s, there was no distinction between home and comercial brewing. The law was changed and that's why there was a massive explosion in the sort of kit beers my parents' generation would be familiar with, in the 70s. I don't know what the legal history in Ireland is.

Am I missing something? Are you in Ireland? If so why not come along to the monthly tasting at the B&C?

Going back to the original post, I say fair feckin play to him, I'm sick to the back teeth of our government, our rules and regulations our health and safety overkill our nanny state rubbish that is being spouted out every day, I hope he gets away with it for as long as he can.
I couldn't give a monkeys what laws he was breaking, if his beer was good I'd buy it, he is probably on the bones of his arse and trying to do something about it rather than living off the state.
Sorry
