TOPIC:

Home Brewed Beer Sold at ____ Park Saturday Market 16 years 1 month ago #1

One of my friends let me know that someone was selling home brewed beer at the ____ Park Market last Saturday.

Does anyone know how this is possible?
Is it legal?
(I don't want to get the guy in trouble in the event that it IS illegal so I don't want to mention the market's name right now.)

Thanks,
Adam

Unfortunately my so called "friend" didn't buy any for me; I'm thinking about stopping by on Saturday to check it out.

It is illegal to sell alcohol without a licence. In order to sell beer at a Saturday market, you would need a full off sales licence, transferred there for the day.

If the individual in question brewed the beer in his or her home, he is unlikely to have a brewers licence, which means he has no business selling beer at all, even in wholesale quantities to a licence holder. This would also mean that he or she has not paid any duty on the alcohol.

I would not like to be in his or her shoes when the nice people from Customs and Excise catch up with them.

LLewellyns sell their own cider at the Temple bar market, there's no reason this guy couldn't be doing the same.

Their cider is also technically home brewed.
