Slightly off topic.

Ken you are obviously a fan of the Schneider hopfen weiss, as am I. I ordered a crate of it from drinkstore last night, great price. Did you try the Brooklyn version? I got a couple of bottles, and didn't think it as nice. It seemed a bit dryer and not as wheaty, and the alcohol taste was more noticeable. Saying that though, I did polish them off fairly quickly, so don't have any to do a side by side comparison to the Schneider one. I probably won't get the Brooklyn version again soon, not at the price it currently is anyway. I've a hopfen weiss clone sitting in the FV at the moment, so will be interesting to see how that compares.

Cheers,
Billy.

Hi Billy,
yeah actually I had a bottle of the Brooklyn version to welcome in 2010, I really enjoyed it, it was much more in-your-face hoppiness, typical American hop profile. I agree the price is high, but I might just go and get one to do a side-by-side. I thought I prefered it over the Schneider version, but who can tell from memories?

Hi Ken.

I only got the Brooklyn ones a couple of weeks ago, and if I had known that the Schneider one would have been available again, I would have kept a bottle for comparisons. I was tempted to order another bottle of the Brooklyn last night, but couldn't justify it financially. Can't wait to get the delivery, should have it tomorrow I presume. I'll be doing well to hold on to it for any period of time, but how long to you reckon they will be good for? They are over 8% so that should affect the keeping properties. I know that wheat beers are traditionally better when young, but reckon the hopfen weiss is a different beast alltogether.

I think I prefer the Brooklyn one with the bigger yankee hop profile, although at the price of the discounted short dated Schneider one it is hard to say no <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> (it should be costing more as it has some bottle age <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> expiration dates <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> )

I think they are just targeting the American market where man-size drinks are generally not that popular <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: --> <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->
