Whilst indulging in Deveneys Hopfen-weiss special[/url:1b36p6lq], I managed to snag myself one of these bad boys, straight out of Wallys' hands.

Whilst I wouldn't normally go for a pilsner, I figured it would be nice to beat TBN to a beer for a change, so grabbed one of the two samples on the counter, apparently one of only 2 that someone other than Porterhouse Staff have tried. I don't think I've ever had the draught version in the PH either, tending towards Red, Wrasslers or Truffle, so I'm not really in a great position for to undertake a review, but here goes <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Pours a light amber colour, not much in the way of head. Nice, slighty sandy mouthfeel, with a nice flavour which fades to a gentle hoppy dryness. Not much in the way of discernable aroma jumping out at me.

Considering I'd be very much in the hophead camp (hence the legging it for the hopfenweiss), this is definitely something I'd definitely consider drinking again, would be super on a summers day with a BBQ.

This whole Porterhouse beers available in bottles business is a very exciting development. Between O'Hara's, Whitewater, and the all the new PH ones, the Irish stout drinker can now enjoy high quality local stout without straying from his couch (I'm currently enjoying a bottle of PH plain, which I got across the road in Spar no less). I do, however, have one major gripe. What is with the size and packaging of these new bottles? I've been a confirmed fan of the PH hop-head since it came out but resent the alco-pop style bottle it comes in, not to mention the weird grenade pin cap. Is there any likelihood of man-sized bottles in the future? <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

I agree. The slender 330ml bottles are off-putting. They just look puny on the shelf beside the chunky 500ml bottles from Whitewater and Carlow and presumably are more expensive to produce per ml.

my problem as a homebrewer is not so much the size but how bloody annoying it is to get the labels off. once you peel the plastic off you have to scrape off the silver with a knife and then scrub the remainder with steel. Arrrggh! I hate not having clean bottles though. What's wrong with nice peelable carlow labels??
