There are other categories of "premium lagers" and "standard lagers", so I'm guessing these can be ruled out. In fact, with the exception of weissbier, I'd say we're talking bottles only. I'm not sure if half-litre bottles of lager like Budvar or Pilsner Urquell count as speciality -- I suspect they probably do.

So, discounting Heineken, Amstel, Stella and the like, care to guess again?[/quote:3vn7vvm1]

Im sticking with my guess, i seem to recall diageo looking to get into the speciality beer market by aquiring the stella brand, if stella counts as a speciality in the parlance of large brewing companies (and the article suggested it did)then i think the % will be higher than many people think.

Stella Artois is a flagship brand of A-B InBev and there's no way they'd let it go. I'd also be amazed if Diageo started showing an interest in developing their beer portfolio in Western Europe: it's a drag on them as it is, and they're very much not a beer company.

This was something i read a few years ago, diaego obviously didn't act upon it but i thought it was pertinent to the discussion of what is regarded as speciality by the industry.

You have the info though, so ruling the likes of stella out im going to downgrade it to 5 % of the market.

When are you going to put us out of our misery and tells us the answer though <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
