Greene King IPA 18 years 10 months ago #1

We brought in Greene King IPA for a customer and I thought I'd give it a go too since I had read allot of hype over it. Supposedly Greene King IPA is currently Britain's favourite cask Ale IPA but this has confused me altogether. This apparent IPA comes in with a strength of 3.6% and has very little hoppy tastes that I could find. Very contradictory of an Indian Pale Ale. I really like Greene Kings Suffolk Strong and one of my favourite Ales is Old Speckled Hen. Can't help but feel a little robbed by this one...

There are a lot of real ale people pissed with Green king, the only thing in common with their IPA and a real IPA is the name, it way off an IPA

Greed King IPA is not an IPA and it is a lousy beer. The IPA on the label is pure marketing; like “Premium Lager”.

Couldn't agree more, not only is it not an IPA, it's an awful beer.

agreed....I had it on draught in london a few weeks ago...bland enough. I think they do an abbot ale that is nice though

Abbott Ale is the beer that first got me in to real ale about 30 years ago. It cost me 39p a pint then! However, if I see Abbott Ale now I will not choose it except as a last resort. It is completely different beer to that life-changing pint in 1977. I believe the expression is "dumbed down". Likewise, Ruddles County is unrecognisable from the beer I used to drink in Nottingham ~20 years ago = it is even a different colour!
