Was down the local on sunday, had the usual dilema of what to drink, didn't feel like Guinness, with it being quite a hot day.

Toyed with the idea of having a Smithwicks, havn't had it for about 18 years, when out of the corner of my I spied a Bass tap.

Gave it a go, and to my surprise it was damn good. Very similar to a lot of English Pale Ales I have been drinking lately from bottles, like Landlord or London Pride.

So if you are wondering what to drink in a Pub and you like a pale ale, give Bass a try

(I don't work for Bass)

I've had it in the UK from cask and it's not a bad real ale, not as good as a lot of the micros but definitely better than a lot of the swill that passes as beer.

I doubt I could tell it from Smithwick's blind.

Must get down to O'Neill's to check that some time.

Really <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? --> Pretty bland stuff from the keg

I found it bland the few times I tried it from keg. Fagan's in Drumcondra used to stock it for Bertie and I drannk a bit while I lived in that area.
