TOPIC:

What beer style would go down well in Ireland? 17 years 6 months ago #1

It's Friday afternoon and I'm feeling idle so I thought I'd start a discussion.

What beer style would you say would sell in Ireland?

Galway Hooker is a good example of something new which is now selling, what else would sell?

a dark lager stands a very good chance . maybe something like a Schwarzbier.

I think you're right there. Maybe one of those Golden Ales that seem to be catching on the UK would do the trick too.

ya something citrusy but not too bitter. no more than 30 ibu or it would frighten people.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but the Irish Red is a good seller for a couple of the micros, and is a good "gateway beer", as our American friends like to put it.

Dunno about Irish Red as a gateway beer in Ireland. I think most people see an Irish Red and decide whether they will like it or not based on how they feel about Smithwicks. And there's a few on the market already.

I think new beers of an unfamiliar style have more chance of being tried than new beers of a familiar style.
