Hooker at Home 17 years 8 months ago #1

Now before anybody starts to sweat or salivate, i want to point out that this is just a fact finding mission, to which a response is compulsary for all ICB members.

Recently i was asked about the possibility of having Galway Hooker available for a house party, and i got thinking.
I have just finished talking to Ronan about filling cornies for use at home, and he thinks it could be done, but there would be differences than the regular brew.
The main one is that it would be Cask style, as there is no way to fill a corny form their equipment. So we would have to carbonate ourselves.

Other issues would involve, transport, delivery, payment(don't know cost yet)and cleaning of kegs.

And before anyone suggests, NO this is not a ruse to increase sales of the Dispenese System.

I know i'm gonna have this at home, but who else would be interested ?? I think it would be great to have Hooker while waiting for a brew to mature, or just to have when friends/family come around.

All comments, positive or negative are welcome.
Also could a cornie user please explain how to force carbonate, as this is an important piece of the puzzle

I've actually wondered about this before but I never got around to following it up. I'm guessing the cornies would be filled from the conditioning tanks? I wonder what connections they use to fill the kegs and could we come up with something that would allow the same.

Force carbonating is quite straightforward. The easiest way is to hook up the gas at around 15 PSI and let it sit. In around a week the keg is carbonated. In this scenario the keg would be cold (refrigerated). If the keg is warmer the pressure would need to be higher as gas is absorbed more quickly in cold liquid.

There are ways you can carbonate within hours but let's leave that for another post.

As you may have guessed I'm interested.

This might work for cornies:

Okay, first obstacle.
Their equipment for filling from final tanks is designed for regular pub kegs, and operates under serious pressure. The final product cannot simply be poured in cornies as it would foam everywhere. That is why we would be given flat beer to gas up ourselves.

This is the setup. 19 litres will be held in total.

I doubt it would be any more convenient or economical for me than going to my local Authorised Hooker Dealer.
