Beer Festival 18 years 1 month ago #13

I'd like to attend the September beer festival, but I've got a full load this summer already. It'd be a good trip though for sure!

I've got some Nøgne Ø Christmas beer at home here-they sure know what they're doing at that brewery. It's good stuff.

Just bought a few bottles of Nøgne Ø (after passing the background check for myself and the last 7 generations of my line that the Norwegian state off-license requires plus providing them with a permission slip from Johnny Logan). Not looking forward to the credit card bill but I am looking forward to the beer. I will report back later.

I find the best place to buy Norwegian beer is in the Netherlands, where it's priced rather more sanely.

If only I had family in the Netherlands. Crossed the border to Sweden earlier to see if I could get the Norwegian beer any cheaper. No joy, but also to my shock I discovered that most beer sold there (outside the state offies) is only 3.5%!

Nøgne Ø Imperial stout has been in the fridge 30 mins. I reckon if I give it another 30 it'll be perfect.

I recently sent them an email, asking for pointers on brewing something like their porter. They were very obliging and near enough gave me the recipe. I'll hopefully give it a go before Christmas.

I think the alcohol limit for beers sold outside the Vinmonopolet is around 4.7% but they do brew some good beers that are available below that mark.

They say a woman will pay €1 for a €2 item she doesn't want while a man will pay €2 for a €1 item he wants. That sums up my attitude to this Nøgne Ø Imperial stout. I resent the amount I was forced to pay for this but man is this beer good or what. I left it until after dinner to try as the website recommended it as a dessert drink, and I saw whilst pouring that I made the correct decision. It looks more like chocolate sauce than a stout, and I can taste chocolate and coffee in a sip. I am enjoying it with some Freia Norwegian chocolate but I reckon it'd be lovely with vanilla ice cream. It's not worth €7, if it retailed at €3.50 I'd be a regular consumer, but I wanted it now and paid the ridiculous price.
