I suppose I was a little sweeping, but having tried the Dogfish head Double IPA and their 90 and 120 minute pale ales, I feel a little dissapointed because all they seem to have is extra alcohol and body. The hops are lost despite them calling their 120 minute a hop head's dream.

Well Hendrixcat if you ever get the chance, a hop head's dreamis Avery. They're moto in the tasting room over the taps is, 'do you like hops, we do'. And I never had anything as bitter as their imperial stout, took me three mouthfulls to adjust to it

I've read that humans can't differentiate bitterness above 70 IBU's, so the figures of 100 IBU interest me. Goose Island is around 60, so it would be interesting to try a 100 IBU monster. It's not just the bitterness though, I'm more fond of the aroma and flavour which are totally missing from the double IPA's I've tried.

I know that Big Foot has 90 IBU's and I could taste the difference between that and the 107 IBU Imperial stout but I do find big foot sweeter than Goose Island

Bigfoot is damn bitter but has quite a lot of residual extract. I'm not fond of American barley wines mainly because of the intense bitterness. I prefer the warmer, maltier English barley wines.
