Now you mention it, I think they may have put a post up here when they launched the website - or maybe it was in a newsletter i got from them.

There was a thread on it before, but it's one of those things. Small country, people reluctant to comment etc.

Stitch, I've noticed this aswell recently. I brew extract and a 3 euro difference on a 3kg bag of DME is significant for me. Would love to know the reason myself.

I don't think the attempts made by subsequent posters to explain the price discrepancy hold any water - especially when the goods are shipped from Ireland to both countries. Can currency exchange rates really be the important factor here?

I think it's just another example of Irish consumers having to pay an inflated price due to a lack of choice in the marketplace.

Having said that, they're a helpful firm with by far the widest selection of products in the country.

(I'm currently looking at sourcing my DME from overseas, but with delivery costs I don't see myself getting it any cheaper. If anyone's got a good source, let me know...)

I agree 3 euro is alot, and as i say, I have no allegiance. Im not defending it, im just trying to assertain why there may be a difference.
(Of course - the other explanation is that they dont believe the brits will pay that much and know we dont really have many other options over here <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> - but i was trying to be more diplomatic than that)

Since the stuff is coming from here (or seems to be) the only visible explanation is exchange rates - which again i agree may not explain this much of a difference.

You should start a group buy for malt extract!! save on shipping. or else talk to the guys about coming down to the UK price and see what their explanation is.

Uk price is 14 pound which at today's rate is 17.1445 euro. No 3 euro difference.

I would have to question todays price against the price I viewed on Saturday (seems the prices have gone up). Either way my business will still go to the Irish website and like I said I will be after a corny setup in the next few months. It is great though that the Irish companies can come on and have a say.
