A few questions

-What size is ideal for a growler considering refill cost, and if you are just using it to bring home a beer not available in any other form of packaging

-Does it have to be glass, or will thick plastic or aluminium do the trick for you.

There are other options out there RE; size, cost and durability. Personally I don't trust myself getting home with a 3L glass bottle, I'd rather something that took a knock or two.

Realistically ( from my perspective ) the idea of a growler isn't for take away sales after a few bevvies , but rather a way for those not necessarily able to afford a night in the pub regularly to go and get beers when sober or on the way home from work to have of an evening in . I'd imagine in Dublin this'd be a fair few people . It'd be an alternative to the offie , so if you would trust youself to bring 4-6 bottles home in a bag , one growler would be an option too .

For this reason 2 litres is min and three is max .
Glass is the best option from a cleaning point of view ( plastic will taint eventually no matter what you do with it ) alu I'm not a 100% certain of , but I think it isn't actually as durable as it looks on paper . As far as I know breweries stopped using aluminium kegs because it
A. Couldn't deal with ciders acidity at all ( leading to the fear that long term it would be corroded by beer too ) and
B. it proved less able to take knocks . Breweries found themselves replacing dented kegs too often , and so switched back to stainless ( this I think I gleaned from Wikipedia). Those things mightn't be an issue for a growler though .

A stainless growler would be wonderful , but I don't know if it'd be in anyway cheap enough . As a matter of fact if I ever brew my $1000 beer it'll be sold in 750mls stainless steel bottles

Biggest hassle is filling them in any event ( PITA for the bar really )
