25KG Sacks of Malt for 30e 15 years 11 months ago #1

Hi Everyone

Dr. Jacoby, Marceldesailly and I are making a bulk order from Bairds[/url:2mhtrw1d], and there's a little room left on the pallet. You can have 25KG sacks of Maris Otter, Munich, Lager, Cara, Crystal, Chocolate, Roast, Black, Amber etc. You can have it crushed or uncrushed. We are not splitting bags because it isn't really worth the hassle, so if you're interested in a sack, pm me, the price is 30 euro and we need cash before we order. It would be good if you can collect but I can probably arrange to drop it to you if you're in Dublin. The pallet will likely be delivered to Naas.

I'm expecting a backlash for this but what the hell, i was never anygood at holding my tongue <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> .
While i understand the need to save money in the current economic times i think all exercises like this is going to do, is damage the LHBS were are very lucky to have. The market over here is so small and between the handful of shops we have, the selection is excellent and something we need to maintain.
Who ever your shop is, support it, these are hard times for them as well. If we don't, then this time next year we could be back giving our money over the water for ingredients that are readily available here now.
Just my two cents <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

we'll order once we fill the pallet, there are 6 slots or so left so soon. I've just asked the guy in Bairds how long shipping will take, but I'd imagine that a pallet takes between 1 and 2 weeks? I have no experience with pallets

**Edit- the pallet will only take 2-3 days to ship once ordered**

The other thing is, if you want it crushed, there are three grades. I would imagine the normal crush you get from homebrew grain is medium.

I understand that alerxandertaipan, and everyone's free to make that choice, but between what the three of us will use for our own brewing, and what we're going to use for our audacious barrel project (200L of imperial stout) we have over half a pallet anyway, so it makes no sense to pay 45e per bag from a shop. For one thing I think it's very overpriced, and for another, it's crushed, and that doesn't keep very well if you're bulk buying for the best part of a year.

Bulk buys are standard practice in the UK, on Jimsbeerkit for example, there's only a handful of us that get through that much grain anyway, so I'm not sure it harms anyone that much. I'm happy to support our local HBC's, but not to my detriment, it's just not a moral issue.
