Annual Beoir Camping Trip 2012 : Confirmed 27th July 13 years 11 months ago #1

EDIT: This has now been confirmed for Salthill for the weekend beginning Friday 27th of July. Sign up sheet is later on in the thread.

It's the week before the Galway races, so maybe some people can make a week of it

With the summer months already here/rapidly approaching (delete as to reflect your creed) I'm thinking it's time to start planning the 3rd annual camping trip. Right now I believe we should have suggestions about a suitable venue.

I have three options to throw out, I've checked that there are campsites in all the locations but don't know the quality of said campsites apart from Dungarvan.:

Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Why mess with a good thing? Casey's in Clonea has treated us well, there's plenty of space and we know the town has a few a good pubs.

Doolin, Co. Clare. Somewhere different, and not too far from Lisdoonvarna and the Burren brewery to get our craft beer, and plenty of scenic areas nearby (The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Aran islands etc.)

Salthill, Co. Galway. Perpetually annoyed at having to leave Galway at 6pm for the last train home, imagine drinking in The Salthouse in the evening!

Hopefully we'll get a few suggestions here that we can then discuss in person at the next ICB meeting.

Just throwing it out there but Sheila's Hostel in Cork is about EUR14 per head and is a five minute walk to the city centre.

You have the Well, the Bierhaus and now also Crane Lane has now got it's own dedicated craft beer bar with approx 8 different taps iirc.

Those of you in Dublin are well served by trains, aircoach and bus eireann (new motorway makes the bus a doddle).

Now, here's the fun bit
For 40 or 50EUR a head we could get a half day fishing on a private charter boat of the head of kinsale. AFAIK they don't object to a few bottles in a cooler box

Any campsites nearby?

Not that I know of, as I said the hostel is dirt cheap if that's any use?

I've stayed in the campsite in Garretstown[/url:3b7ywt66].It's decent enough except for the steep hill up to it, it could cause problems
It would be a bit off the beaten track and you'd need to bring your own craft beer/homebrew

Plenty to do in the area to make one thirsty with an excellent surf school just around the corner. I might get a group discount if there were people interested.

Cheers for the suggestion roryaherne, may be something to consider for another trip, but sleeping in a hostel on a camping trip is cheating. My wife who is a scout leader surely would not approve.

In any case I need an excuse to buy a new tent!
