Regular Bull and Castle meetings? 18 years 6 months ago #1

Hi all,
After Betty and I joined a few of you in the Bull and Castle, for a pint on Saturday, a couple of things got decided. The first thing I decided was that I am never going there again, on a night when they have their Soul DJ. The music was far too loud, so even when we moved down to the table near the toilets, I had to strain to hear what other people were saying.

A major reason I like the Bull and Castle more than the Porterhouse is that the music is kept to a reasonable level. No offence Silenus, it's just that I go to pubs for beer and conversation and your Soul DJ was ruining one of those things for me.

The other thing is that Betty likes the idea that I have an outlet for my beer geekage, but thinks it would be better if she left me to it in future, so she doesn't have to listen to me shite on about beer. To this end she as suggested that we arrange a regular night, when we can meet up for pints, beer swaps and general beer geek chat.

So how about it? Regular Bull and Castle night? How about Thursday? That way our significant others would have have us to themselves weekend nights.

Sounds like a plan. I agree entirely about the music. I have problems hearing conversations with background noise in general, but when the music gets turned up I practically have to resort to lip reading. Personally, I don't know if I'll make it to that many because it'a trek in and out from Swords on a work night, but I agree entirley that regular meet ups for those who can make it is a great idea.

What kind of soul?

Old-school or the modern rubbish?

The latter

It's not the choice of music that bothers me (not that I'm a fan of this stuff either), it's the volume.

I can ignore music I don't like, as long as it isn't so loud that I can't hear conversation. If it is too loud, then I might as well be in the pub on my own and that's just pointless.

Even if there is music I like; too loud and I'm off.

Comment duly noted, and no offence whatsoever. unfortuately the dj brings the right age group for us, and we do need some late night trade to boost turnover and put us on the map. It's one of our few forms of advertising which attracts the right crowd, But i will be looking into the noise levels. There's no need to be deafened in a pub.
Cheers
BTW, whats your opinion on the Curim & Mollings from Carlow brew co. ?
