The Great (Imaginary) Irish Beer Festival 2012 15 years 2 months ago #1

Right, I am not sure if this[/url:1voxeyre] is still on...

But here is the thing.

My wife is doing a PR and events course. Part of her course is to put on an imaginary event. She gets graded on the event.

Essentially she has to research it all and the numbers have to match up and all that.

She started out thinking about launching a beer from someone like Metalman but since it is imaginary I thought why not go bigger and have a bit Irish Beer Festival.

A massive thing sponsored by the big boys in association with Beoir and of course with all of the Micro Breweries on the Island there as well as as foreign craft beer if we can get people involved.
Sierra Nevada for instance is a sponsor at GBBF.

Anyway at the very least, she presents this to her class and maybe gets people interested.
The flipside is she will have done research in to what it would take for us to organise something down the road and that might come in handy.

If anyone has any ideas or resources from previous snooping into the idea, let me know.

The beer market in Ireland is declining while wine is growing (new figures from the UN here[/url:2muav0hj] - PDF). There's a case to be made for a Big Festival of Irish Beer, with a sliding scale of sponsor packages available to all participants. There's a possibility the big boys may bite, if we want them, of course.

The big boys do sponsor these sorts of events in the UK and US.

Craft beer is less of a threat in this country than in the US.

Plus, and this is a big plus for them, if it is pushed as a big event, during the summer as a tourist draw it might introduce tourists to Guinness back home. Also there is the possibility of a Failte Ireland grant for an event that brings people to the country.

The Franciscan Well etc events might not be big enough to draw attention for tourists but a massive event in Dublin during the summer just might.

We can't be anti big boys and in some cases we can use them to our advantage.

In association with a city centre hotel, Bord Failte and Bord Bia might be an option. It ain't gonna be a GBBF but there could be plenty of choice ala September fest. That was a great day out.

Not sure I understand...How 'imaginary' is this?

I mean do you plan to actually ask the big boys if they would be interested in sponsoring an imaginary event? Not sure they'd go for that...

Or do you mean once your wife has created the whole methodology and concept, then present it to the big boys as something which you intend to carry out? I could see people going for that...
