Having met yesterday , the Lee Brewing Club is starting to take shape , and I'll outline here the way it's looking, to allow people to decide for themselves if they want to commit and get involved .
There will be a regular (roughly) fortnightly Brewday in the Franciscan Well Brew pub . On the day there will be a limit of three Boilers . Rostering and organisation will be required to ensure that everyone gets their turn on Boiling.
However with a regular brewday, by the third or fourth brewday we should be into the situation where the Brewers from the first day are racked and ready to condition ( in either cask or Bottle )
So brewing will be "leapfrogged" with racking or conditioning for brewers.
Quickly enough that should bring on the second aspect of the club , being the tasting sessions .
The Franciscan Well has kindly granted the club the use of the Function room for tasting sessions ( provision will be made for brewers to bring their gear the previous night to allow them avail of the tasting , without the requirement to Drive a van load of equipment away )
In this way we will soon enough have a brewday combined with a tasting session , so even though a club member might not be on a brewpot on a given day , there'll still be plenty to do , in assisting , racking or Bottling , or setting up for the tastings .( or indeed , manning the breakfast grill !!)
We're hoping to get a few small casks to facilitate tasting sessions .
Further to the Social aspect of the Club we will organise 1 annual outing for all members ( most likely a brewery tour ) and a number of smaller outings are likely to be organised on an opt in basis .
Now , down to the brass tacks .
At present , Annual membership will be set at 30 euros . this will go towards club funds and will be used towards the Annual outing .
Each Brewday will cost 10 euro ( for all members) , to be put towards the use of the Franciscan Well . However you will be entitled to two Pints of Well Crafted beer on the brewday in return . Excess from this goes into the main club fund .
The club will run a small "manage" for members to save towards the Opt-in trips . This is completely voluntary and has no bearing on eligibility for opt in trips .
Basically , if the Club is running an overnight trip to Ballyferriter , with a bus hired , and the cost is 80 euros a member , well then you could choose to pay the 80 euros , or you might have saved 40 in the manage towards it and choose to use that for this trip . Or you might skip the Ballyferriter trip . All optional .
The annual trip however will be slightly different , if you're gonna miss it , well you can't claim back your annual subscription.
These are the bones of it , Hopefully I can give an announcement soon of when the first Brewday will be and maybe what the calendar will be like ,
Membership will be open on the First brewday and hopefully there'll be a club constitution written down by then .
Looking forward to It
Sean
