Irish Times in Saturday..

Article on [b:2g5pg8nb]apple pressing event [/b:2g5pg8nb]due to take place at The Brooklodge Hotel in Wicklow. Regular readers will know the Hotel for it's onsite microbrwery.

Seems they are having an apple pressing event, where you bring your apples (I'm gonna bring pears) and they will press them for you. It's a great opportunity to brew the real thing as the pulping and pressing is the really difficult/expensive bit in real cider making.

The event looks like a great idea, except:

I bought the old 'if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it probably is a duck' manoeuvre...

Drinking cider after 12 days would be like drinking crude oil.. The only cider I brewed took about 2 months to clear from a dark brown sludge to a wonderful gold.

Still I'm not sure my homemade press will withstand another 100kg of pears..

I've not been, but I have heard it does, or did, actually have a brewery.

It had a broom cupboard with a sign on the door that read "Vat Room" or "Brew Room". The sign had been removed last time I was there.
