Low blow sir, low blow.

OghamBrew is a non-profit making organisation. There are costs involved - e.g. venue hire, food, prizes etc.
That's what the money goes towards.

There really should be no problem finding someone to bring to an event with lots of beer, food and entertainment. If a brewer is entering as a solo 1 man team that's grand. Bring a pal and it's only 20 blips each. The brewers pay less because they are providing the beer for the people. Isn't that fair?

"oblivious":39u1abin wrote: But I do think the judges choice could have a greater scope to include more beers form people , say 3 bottle per entry? [/quote:39u1abin]

Well instead everyone could stay at home and we could have a single bottle mailed directly to the judges homes and they could sample one brew a night for a fortnight, confer with eachother via skype from their armchairs and text message everybody the results at the end but it wouldn't make for much of a festival.

Listen I'm kidding. Beernut is right. It's not just about having your beer evaluated it's about the social aspect and everyone taking part together in a festival event. That's what makes it fun.

Any Cork/Munster based folks planning on going to this? I would be going as a visitor so just wondering. Alternatively if any one is contemplating entering but won't have someone to take, I would be more than happy to tag along and chip in the €25 directly to the competing brewer.

First of all, congratulations for getting this event off the ground, I imagine there is a lot of organisation and planning involved in setting this up and no doubt to make the event work the figures need to be right. I also think it's a great way to introduce the concept of craft brewing and homebrewing to a wider audience.

Without being negative about the festival as a whole I have to agree with RichieH on the entry fee for the brewers; it does seem a bit cheeky to ask brewers to bring 20 litres of beer and pay €40 for the privilege, even taking the entertainment and food into account.

I should add as well that I don't want to seem too negative about this, I really like the idea of a competition/festival, and it's fantastic that you organised it. I won't enter this though because I have no pressure barrel or keg that I could bring my beer in. Maybe next time, or maybe as a guest.
